Cathy, who lives on the opposite coast, sent me a message. And I wanted to share it with you.  It serves as a little reminder of

HOW

LUCKY

ARE

¡Que suerte tenemos!   Those of us who are able to be in Portland to take advantage of Ricardo.

Ole and yay yay yay because he's headed our direction...

Desde Nueva York

Dear Laura,

I continue to enjoy your postings. I just wanted to report from New York that Ricardo was absolutely wonderful in the NY Flamenco Festival--I only wish I could join you for his workshop. His dancing in Rafaela Carrasco's company was spectacular-- he exuded this wonderful energy and how else to describe it--this happiness--that permeated his dancing onstage. Rafaela's production was the highlight of the festival here as far as I am concerned--it was a beautiful tribute to the roots of flamenco and a respectful, extremely moving homage to the early recordings of flamenco music which were captured and preserved by Federico Garcia Lorca in the early 1930s. It was altogether a monumental production.

Enjoy the workshop and I look forward to reading about it!

Best regards

Thanks, Cathy for sharing your thoughts.  I am so glad you got to experience Ricardo in NYC!

And, to add to that

Here's what the Associated Press had to say.  They mention men in skirts.  (By the way, if anyone wants to learn to dance with the bata de cola, we can set something up with Ricardo.  He learned from La Rafi...and bata is one of those things that requires correct technique, so learning from un experto is key)

I absolutely LOVE this particular show that Cathy and the press refer to...I've had the chance to see it a couple of times now.  Perhaps if we sweet talk Ricardo, he'll demonstrate some bits from it for us while he's here...

Sometimes I still can't believe this is happening.

What did I do to deserve this?  When I met Ricardo that night back in 2006 I had no idea he would ever come back here and hang out with us for three whole weeks.  Ok, the excitement is bubbling...

Have you had the chance to see this show somewhere?  Thoughts on the upcoming immersion?   Comments are always welcomed.
