To learn Flamenco is to live the culture, the flavor, and the arte of it all. Spending intimate time with a true flamenco in priceless and yet, I acknowledge that there is an expense to having this unique experience in our lives.  Experience the same quality of instruction without purchasing a plane ticket or dealing with a horrible exchange rate!  It’s been over a year since we’ve had him in Portland, (since the fall of 2010) and at that time, even before the workshops were over, students began asking how soon he would return.  Well, here it is…our own Flamenco Immersion with Maestro Ricardo López.

Class Offerings & Schedule

Build your own workshop…You may combine whichever workshops you’re interested in.  Make it work for you!

Spaces are limited, so definitely plan ahead for those workshops that you want.   All classes are subject to cancellation if the registration quota is not met.  Contact us to sign up, $100 non-refundable deposit to save your spot. ($50 deposit for palmas)  Payment in full by MONDAY, MARCH 19 gets you discounted tickets to the shows on April 1 & 8 (up to 4 discounted tickets per show!)  CREDIT CARD payments accepted.

Some notes on classes

Palmas
Is essential for all students of singing, guitar, or dance.  Different palos will be studied as well as counter times.  (not to mention the palmas and jaleos classes are absolutely always the most fun…and they’re the least-expensive)  And the really good news, if you’re far from Portland, you can STILL take palmas via video (yes, you really can)  It’ll be as if you’re right there with us.

Wednesday Castanets
Ok, ANYONE who has a pair of castanets should take this class.  Here he’ll cover correct castanet technique (muy importante) and will teach a piece that can be used for practice or performance.  For those who want to take this class but do not have castanets, let us know!  We have some pairs we can loan out.

Wednesday Técnica
Breaks down the intricacies of flamenco for both beginning and experienced dancers.  Ricardo will focus on form an execution in both body and footwork.  The techniques covered here will strengthen any dance but will be particularly helpful in solidifying the two choreography classes and helping to make your dance look authentic.  Ricardo is a master at making moves look sharp and at putting energy and intention into each step.  It can be hard for us to pick up these intricacies while we’re focusing on remembering a choreography, so here is our chance to focus on how to dance correctly and how to make each move look really really good.

Weekend Choreography Classes
Ok, this is where you get the latest and greatest moves.  This is where you get stuff that we can’t find just anywhere.  This is where you get the juicy moves to show off to your friends.  This is where we become utterly inspired.  This is where we fall in love.
- Ricardo is setting the choreographies in these workshops to recorded music so that students may later practice more easily on their own or use them for a performance piece (for those into performing)  That said, the material taught does not need to be done to the recorded music, one can take the sections they like and use them independent of the recording.
- And remember,each weekend will be taught independently and by section, so one may take all or just one or two.
- Ricardo is setting the beginning choreography to a slow fandangos by Mayte Martin
- The Int/Adv will be to a bulerias afandangada by Marina Heredia.

Pricing for Ricardo’s Workshops

Técnica (Wed) – $113
Castanets (Wed) – $113
One weekend of one level choreograhpy (Fri, Sat, Sun) – $144
All Three weekends of one level choreography (Fri, Sat, Sun) – $389* (*10% multiple workshop discount figured; if you choose to take more workshops, we’ll adjust this discount accordingly, see Discounts for Multiple Workshops Example below)
Weekend Palmas (3 Saturdays, 1 Sunday) – $80

Baile DROP-IN Rate – $37/hr. (class times vary in length: 1.5 hr class = $55.50 / 1hr 15 min class = $46.25 )
Palmas DROP-IN Rate – $25/hr.

*Weekend workshop note: Both levels of baile will focus on a different choreography over the span of the three weekends.  If you can make all three, that is ideal, but if you can’t, that’s ok too.  Each weekend, Ricardo will focus on different sections of the choreography, so each will build upon the last.  In other words, each weekend is a “separate” workshop to teach part of a longer choreography…Attend all three weekends, and you have a complete piece!
